Freedom in Christ: Deliverance & Healing Ministry
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” - John 8:36
Jesus came not only to forgive sins but also to bring freedom from every form of bondage. Throughout the Gospels, we see Him casting out demons, healing the sick, and setting captives free. That same ministry continues today through His Church. Deliverance is not strange or extreme - it is part of the normal Christian life.
Afterall, Jesus said:
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” - Mark 16:17-18
What is deliverance?
Deliverance ministry is the work of setting people free from the influence of evil spirits through the authority of Jesus Christ.
When Jesus announced His mission, He declared:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives” - Luke 4:18
Deliverance is one way that liberty comes.
Can Christians need deliverance?
Yes, Christians can experience demonic oppression. While a believer cannot be possessed, they can still be attacked in their mind, emotions, or body. Even Christians can struggle with things that don’t break through normal discipleship or counselling alone and these may have a spiritual root. Jesus called the ministry of deliverance “the children’s bread” - Matthew 15:26. Referring to the children of Israel as those who He came to deliver.
How do demons gain access to torment a person?
Paul wrote to the believers of his day: “Do not give the devil a foothold” - Ephesians 4:27.
Sin that is not repented of, involvement in the occult, generational patterns, unresolved trauma, unforgiveness or bitterness and more can bring Christians out from the protection of God and create entry points for demonic oppression. Think of it as leaving your house with the front door wide open, a thief may come right in. Deliverance is kicking the unwanted intruder out and learning to secure the doors.
Signs you may need deliverance
Deliverance is often the missing piece for believers who are stuck. Signs may include:
Ongoing cycles of addiction or destructive behaviour
Persistent fear, anxiety, or depression
Tormenting dreams or spiritual oppression
Intrusive thoughts
Unexplained sickness that has no medical root
Inability to move forward in your walk with God
If you see yourself in any of these, there is hope. Jesus still sets captives free.
How deliverance happens
Deliverance is not about formulas. It is about the aligning ourselves with the authority of Jesus. That said, freedom often comes through these steps with the guidance of the Holy Spirit:
Repent of all known sin.
Forgive everyone who has wronged you.
Renounce every tie with the enemy.
Resist the devil and command unclean spirits to leave in the name of Jesus.
“Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” - James 4:7
Deliverance is not about our power – it’s about His. Demons have no choice but to obey the authority of Christ.
After deliverance
Deliverance is often immediate, but lasting freedom requires transformation.
The Bible calls us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
This means:
Filling your life with God’s Word
Replacing lies with God’s truth
Walking in fellowship with other believers
Living a lifestyle of worship and prayer
Deliverance clears the ground. Discipleship builds the house.
Stories of freedom
“I suffered from fibromyalgia for 11 years. As the Holy Spirit led me through repentance and deliverance prayers, I felt my shoulder loosen and loosen more until it felt flexible. Over the next few days, I realised I had more energy than I’d had in years. The freedom from pain and regular afternoon naps has lasted. All glory to God who made a provision for forgiving, repentance, deliverance and healing!”
Take the step toward freedom
